Nom or Vom: Super Sunday Second Serving Poll with Grilled Cheese Fillets and Corn Ice Cream

Fish and cheese? I dunno, man. I dunno. And it’s cheap fish and cheap cheese. Like a home cooked filet o fish with the cheese inside the breading. Fish stick scientists have maybe gone too far.

3519508533_c30045fe7b And then there’s sweet corn ice cream. The taste of sweet cream and sweet corn, together at last. Is “just escape” on the lid meant to entice you to escape in the flavor of the ice cream, or escape from the ice cream, down the aisle, and out of the discount grocery store you found it in?

i used to love fishsticks with cheese on them when i was 5.

    1. admin May 11, 2009 at 7:52 pm

I’m generally opposed to cheese and fish together. And this is extra amazing because as a true Sconnie, I will try to put cheese on ANYTHING.

  2. xaotica May 11, 2009 at 2:01 am

Nope. But I’m pretty anal about what fish I eat. I’m mostly vegetarian and occasionally eat sushi but I don’t like eating fish that’s farmed or overfished. I pretty much only eat organic stuff too (I don’t eat meat more for environmental/factory farming reasons than ethical issues about eating animals)

conceptually though I will try almost anything if it was created in a less harmful way. Corn ice cream sounds gross except that 90% of sweet things that the average American eats are corn syrup so why not. I like red bean ice cream

Hey. I saw you on yelp reviewing my work!

Sorry that has nothing to do with Melissa’s blog.

The cod and halibut for those fish filets is soooo overfished it is ridiculous. But it’s nothing compared to the salmon.

It took me awhile to figure out the picture on the box. I missed the fact that it was cheese AND fish together (again… for the first time). Plus, it looks like that fillet is a set of breaded dentures.

Now that I have seen the fishy teeth, I can’t unsee the fishy teeth!

      1. poetrix618 May 12, 2009 at 12:46 am

Fishy teeth… oh do not make me laugh out loud at work! My male, Indian, don’t-talk-to-the-white-lady office mate fears me already.

I love how the ice cream says “just escape…”

    1. admin May 11, 2009 at 7:50 pm

I think they were going for something vaguely Calgon-esque. Sweet Corn, take me away!

      1. aquariumspast May 11, 2009 at 11:39 pm

I’m sure they were, but here it reads “RUN!”

And it’s now 17-17 on the ice cream … automatic recount plus legal battle ahead?

Ties here are settled by cage match.

  5. shadowstitch May 10, 2009 at 11:57 pm

Man, I would totally eat any and all of that.

And I would also eat this, given half a chance:

    1. admin May 11, 2009 at 2:25 am

It’s like a push pop of lunch!

did you make this up? this is terrifying AND amazing!

      1. shadowstitch May 11, 2009 at 12:42 am

Oh, it’s very real…or it was, as of about 9 years ago. If it exists today, I cannot say.

“Flavors include: Macaroni & Cheese, Macaroni & Cheese with Broccoli, Chili Mac, Scrambled Eggs with Cheese, Scrambled Eggs with Cheese & Sausage and Scrambled Eggs with Cheese and bacon.”

        1. poetrix618 May 12, 2009 at 12:42 am

They should call them vomit pops… or road(kill)pops. Holy christ they’re scary. Thanks for the nightmares.

  6. cheeserock May 11, 2009 at 12:24 am

i MUST locate that fish in milwaukee.

Corn ice cream is awesome. One of my favourite flavours. It tastes like Frosted Flakes. Surprisingly good. I had quite low expectations of it the first time I tried it.

I can’t vouch for that brand, but if it’s anything like the ones I’ve had, I’m sure it’s actually quite good. I always get it at gelato places, so I can’t mess with it, but I figure it would be really good with frosted flakes or cocoa/chocolate frosted flakes, or maybe Choco Flake:

It’s like corn flakes dipped in chocolate. Crazy.

The cheese fish? The slogan could be “No Longer Trust The Gorton’s Fisherman Because He’s Trying To Prank You With Joke Flavours Along With The Real Shit”

    1. admin May 11, 2009 at 7:49 pm

I liked red bean ice cream when I was in Taiwan, so I imagine sweet corn would probably be all right, if not something I crave.

    2. admin May 11, 2009 at 7:51 pm

Also, the garlic butter and lemon pepper filets from Gorton’s are pretty awesome.

  8. smacksaw May 11, 2009 at 8:49 am

BTW, that Gorton’s thing looks like an inside-out Filet-o-Fish.

    1. admin May 11, 2009 at 7:49 pm

But do Filets-o-Fish taste like grilled cheese?

  9. jessetastic May 11, 2009 at 2:12 pm

The picture on the fish sticks is so ridiculously cartoonish. It seems to be aimed at kids.

    1. admin May 11, 2009 at 7:47 pm

I’m sure that it IS aimed at kids, and that’s how my lizard brain focused in on it so quickly.

  10. poetrix618 May 12, 2009 at 12:54 am

I’m interested in the ice cream. It seems like it could be excellent. My mom is from Nebraska. We own farms. We obsess about fresh summer corn.

I love cheese too, but I applied my “if-nauseated-would-the-thought/sight-of-this-make-me-hurl” rule and came up with SPEWTACULAR.
